Why not just use a regular outlet?
A standard wall outlet is Level 1 charging. It runs on 120 volts. It adds only 3 to 5 miles of range per hour.
For a daily driver, that is too slow. You plug in overnight and still wake up low.
A Level 2 charger runs on 240 volts. It adds 25 to 30 miles per hour or more. That is a full battery by morning, every morning.
What actually drives the price
Four things set the cost of a Level 2 home charger. Miss one and the number you read online falls apart fast.
1. The charger unit
A good Level 2 charger runs about $400 to $800. Some drivers already own one from the carmaker. If you do, we simply install the one you have.
2. The circuit and wiring
Your charger needs its own 240V line back to the panel. Cost depends on distance, wall type, and whether we run conduit.
A short run inside an attached garage is cheap. A long run to a detached garage or an outside wall costs more.
3. Panel capacity
This is the big one. A car charger pulls a lot of power. Your panel needs open space and enough amps to feed it.
Adding one spare breaker is a minor cost. A full panel upgrade is a bigger job with its own price.
4. Permits, mounting, and labor
Arizona work needs a permit and an inspection. We handle both. We also mount the unit clean and test it at full speed before we leave.
Real price ranges in Arizona
Most simple installs in the East Valley land between $600 and $1,500. That covers the circuit, mounting, and testing on a panel with room to spare.
A harder install runs higher. Long wire runs, a detached garage, or a trenched outdoor line can push you toward $2,000 or more.
If your panel needs work first, add that on top. Panel upgrades often run $1,500 to $4,000 on their own. We check your panel before we quote, so there are no surprises.
When a panel upgrade changes the math
Many older East Valley homes still run 100-amp or 150-amp panels. Those were built for a smaller list of appliances.
A charger draws as much as an electric range. If your panel is near full, we may suggest an upgrade first.
